World sales-production shingle to bow at EFM
Andreas Rothbauer, former head of sales and acquisitions at Beta Film, and producer Alec Schulmann have launched Picture Tree Intl., a Berlin-based world sales and production shingle that will bow at next month’s European Film Market.
Picture Tree is in negotiations with production companies from Scandinavia, Canada and South Africa as strategic partners.
The duo will use the Berlinale’s EFM and Co-Production Market in February to scout and acquire projects and will unveil its first lineup at the Cannes Market in May.
Rothbauer and Schulmann first collaborated in 2005 on Sergey Bodrov’s “Mongol: The Rise of Genghis Khan.”
Rothbauer, who left Munich-based Beta last year, was responsible for buying and distribbing “Downfall,” “The Lives of Others,” “The Counterfeiters,” “Il Divo” and “Mongol.”
Schulmann specializes in co-productions. He produced Bodrov and Ivan Passer’s “Nomad: The Warrior,” starring Kuno Becker, Bodrov’s 2010 comedy “A Yakuza’s Daughter Never Cries” and Gulshat Omarova’s “Native Dancer” and “Fifty-Fifty.”
