First Trailer for MGM’s ‘RoboCop’ Remake (VIDEO)

Film bows on Feb. 7, 2014

MGM and Sony have given us a glimpse of 2014’s first tentpole, unveiling the first trailer for the remake of “RoboCop.”

Pic stars Joel Kinnaman, Abbie Cornish, Samuel L. Jackson and Michael Keaton with Jose Padilha directing.

The reboot is set in 2028 Detroit where multinational conglomerate OMNICORP turns Alex Murphy, a critically injured cop, into a part man, part machine crime-fighting figure.

The trailer already hints to the original, including a new suit and the fact that Murphy is still alive when he undergoes the transformation. In the 1987 original, he is revived after the procedure.

The pic bows on Feb. 7, 2014.

    Detroit has mountains?

One thing that was great about the original was how clunky clean it looked, plus the biting satire of our 80’s culture and “If it bleeds it leads” newscasts. It also pushed boundaries that made you come out of the theater in a daze. The last movie that did that was The Matrix. Not sure if it’s going to hold up even as a movie let alone a remake but I like that Abbie Cornish is the wife, but Texan actress Angie Bolling did just fine in the original with just less than 1 minute of screen time.

But it was a simpler time when directors didn’t go to film school.
