Robert Rodriguez’s ‘Machete Kills’ Set to Premiere Sept. 19 at Fantastic Fest

Open Road launches actioner on Oct. 4

Robert Rodriguez’s “Machete Kills” will have its world premiere on Sept. 19 as the opening night film for Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas.

Danny Trejo, Alexa Vega and Rodriguez will attend. “Fantastic Fest has quickly become the best place for fans to first experience the newest and coolest genre movies and blockbusters,” Rodriguez said.

Machete Kills” is the second film in a trilogy. Open Road will release the film in the U.S. on Oct. 4.

As he did in the 2010 orginal, Trejo portrays as an ex-Federale agent. In the sequel, he’s recruited by the President of the United States to take down a madman revolutionary and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has hatched a plan to spread war and anarchy.

Cast includes Michelle Rodriguez, Sofia Vergara, Amber Heard, Carlos Estevez, Lady Gaga, Antonio Banderas, Jessica Alba, Demian Bichir, Alexa Vega, Vanessa Hudgens, Cuba Gooding, Jr., William Sadler, Marko Zaror and Mel Gibson. Producers are Robert Rodriguez, Aaron Kaufman, Iliana Nikolic, Sergei Bespalov, Alexander Rodnyansky and Rick Schwartz.

    Holy moley, the first “Machete” movie was one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen, so the thought of a sequel, much less a trilogy, makes my stomach churn.
