Revolver’s fate in doubt as ‘Liability’ returned

Metrodome takes over as pic's U.K. distrib

LONDON — A question mark was hanging over the future of U.K. distrib Revolver Entertainment Monday after it emerged that rival Metrodome had acquired all rights in the territory to thriller “The Liability,” a film that Revolver had been set to release this month.

“The Liability,” from U.K. production company Corona Pictures, is said to have been returned to its sales agent AV Pictures in recent weeks. Revolver had still been actively promoting the film with links to the trailer on Twitter as recently as Jan. 23.

The company’s normally very active Twitter account has been quiet since Jan. 25, failing even to comment on Revolver’s docu “The Imposter” winning the outstanding British debut award for helmer Bart Layton, and producer Dimitri Doganis at the BAFTAs on Sunday.

It is the latest indication of trouble at the distrib, which has shed a number of key staff in recent months. Among the departures were former head of theatrical marketing Andrew Woodyatt, who left in September, and joined Metrodome in January as head of group marketing. Former head of business affairs Yogita Puri left last year to become director, commercial and content at production company Mr Wolf.

Most recently the biggest cause of rumors regarding Revolver’s potential shuttering came when managing director Nick Taussig, who also served as director of production of in-house production arm Gunslinger Films, and Gunslinger’s head of development Paul Van Carter, left to launch their own film finance and production outfit Salon Pictures.

Revolver’s chief executive Justin Marciano was unavailable for comment at time of going to press.

“The Liability,” a comedy thriller starring Tim Roth as a veteran hit-man and Jack O’Connell as his eager apprentice, had been due to release in Blighty on Feb. 22 through Revolver. It is now expected to release in May through Metrodome.

The film, which also stars Talulah Riley and Peter Mullan, is helmed by Craig Viveiros from a script by John Wrathall. Richard Johns and Rupert Jermyn produce.

AV has previously secured sales on title in territories including North America (Grindstone Entertainment Group), Germany (Koch Media), Italy (Europictures), Japan (Nikkatsu Corp), Australia/NZ (Vendetta Pictures), Scandinavia (Another World), Brazil (PlayArte) and CIS/Baltic States (New Entertainment Partners).
