Company takes control of distrib-exhib

LONDON

Qatar Media Services (q.media) has acquired Gulf Film, one of the largest film distribs in the Middle East.

Gulf Film distribs titles across the region for companies including Studiocanal, EuropaCorp, Relativity Media, IM Global and Voltage. The company acts as sub-distributor in the Gulf territories for Paramount and Universal and, in partnership with its affiliates, distribs titles from Lionsgate/Summit and Nu Image.

Gulf Film also operates the region’s largest exhib chain, Grand Cinemas, which it set up in 2000. The chain has more than 136 screens and 60% of UAE’s exhib market.

“Gulf Film is a great addition to q.media’s growing media and entertainment service portfolio, and we will utilize its unwavering market dominance to our benefit,” said group CEO Yousif R. Al Khater.

The company plans to expand Gulf Film’s operations in the Middle East and North Africa.

Established in 2004 by the Qatari government to work across outdoor, audio and visual advertising, events and conferences, and the film industry, q.media now operates in seven markets in various media sectors. Its global assets include Australia’s largest media printing house, which operates outdoor advertising in Oz, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam.
