Pyramide builds sales on pic trio

'Wakolda,' 'Gebo' 'Lady' marketed at EFM

Eric Lagesse’s Pyramide Intl. has closed a flurry of deals on Argentinean Lucia Puenzo’s “Wakolda,” Manoel de Oliveira’s “Gebo and the Shadow” and Jeanne Moreau starrer “A Lady in Paris.”

A 1960-set psychological thriller, “Wakolda” follows Nazi war criminal Josef Mengele, notorious for his horrific experiments in Auschwitz, on a stay at a family-run boarding house in Patagonia, where the family’s daughter falls under his spell.

Warren Ellis and Nick Cave composed the score.

After unveiling a promo at Berlin’s EFM, Pyramide Intl. pre-sold “Wakolda” to Brazil (Imovision), and closed a pan-Latin America deal with LapTV; while producer Luis Puenzo at Historias Cinematograficas sold closed a major deal with Disney for Argentina.

Lucero Garzon, Pyramide Intl.’s head of sales, said various U.S. distributors were circling the pic. “Wakolda” is lead-produced by Argentina’s Historias Cinematografias and co-produced by France’s Pyramide Prods. and Spain’s Wanda Films and Norwegian outfit Hummelfilm.

“Wakolda” is based on Puenzo’s novel, which has been published in Argentina, Brazil, Spain, Italy, Norway, Turkey and Germany and will soon be out in the U.S. and France.

Pic will be delivered in May.

“A Lady in Paris” was picked up by Italy’s Officine Ubu and Russian TV net Channel One. “Gebo” sold to Alcine Terran in Japan.

Pyramide Intl.’s team has recently been joined by Agathe Mauruc, who came over from Celluloid Dreams, and Ilaria Gomarasca from Wide Management.
