‘Poltergeist’ Reboot Set For Late-Summer Start

Sam Raimi, Nathan Kahane to produce reboot with Roy Lee, Rob Tapert

MGM is moving ahead on its reboot of the “Poltergeist” franchise with a late-summer start date of production.

“Poltergeist” is being produced by Sam Raimi and Nathan Kahane via Ghost House Pictures along with Roy Lee and Rob Tapert.

“Monster House” director Gil Kenan is on board to direct the film. Deadline.com first reported Kenan’s attachment.

MGM released a trio of “Poltergeist” titles during the ’80s. The first film was produced by Steven Spielberg and Frank Marshall and starred Craig T. Nelson and Jobeth Williams as parents terrorized by ghosts who communicate with their youngest daughter through the TV set.

Since it emerged two years from a prepackaged bankruptcy, MGM’s film business has been focused on co-financing projects such as “21 Jump Street” and mining its library for remakes, including “Carrie,” “Robocop,” “Death Wish” and “Ben-Hur.”
