Event joins SAGs in moving a week earlier from 2013

The Producers Guild Awards will move up a week on the calendar in 2014, setting the date for their next kudos as Jan. 19.

The PGAs will take place at the Beverly Hilton, a night after the SAG Awards, which moved up from this year’s Jan. 27 event to Jan. 18. The most recent PGAs were on Jan. 26.

By moving earlier in the year, the guild award shows are preparing for the invasion of next year’s Winter Olympics, which will run from Feb. 7-23. Speculation continues that in getting out of the way of the Olympics and the Super Bowl, which together will occupy all four Sundays in February, the Oscars might move into January rather than delay until March.

However, should the Oscars end up in March, there would be more breathing room between the release of the guild award nominations and the Oscar nominations voting deadline. This year, the PGA noms came out well into the Oscar nominations voting period and less than 48 hours before the deadline, and the Directors Guild Award noms were released days later.

Next year’s ceremony mark the 25th PGA Awards.
