Pakistani-set doc aims for awards season run

Oscilloscope Laboratories has announced that it will release Omar Mullick and Bassam Tariq’s just-completed Pakistan-set documentary “These Birds Walk” later this year year with plans to qualify the film for all major awards.

The film was produced by Mullick, Tariq, Valentina Canavesio, and Sonejuhi Sinha and executive produced by Oscilloscope’s Dan Berger and David Laub.

Oscilloscope said it began its involvement in “Birds” while it was still in production, representing that it’s even come on board a project. It will hold the world premiere at the True/False Film Festival in Columbia, Mo., followed by screenings at South By Southwest.

“BIrds” documents a runaway boy in Karachi, Pakistan, and focuses on the struggles of wayward street children and the samaritans looking out for them

Mullick and Tariq said, “Dan and David supported our film on the basis of a very early rough cut. This was something we could not have dreamt up as we chased runaways and dodged corruption in Pakistan to make a film.”
