Companies are seeking co-acquisitions

Open Road Films has partnered with XLrator Media to market and sell XLrator titles to pay television and free TV outlets along with select VOD carriers.

Open Road said the companies have already completed sales to “numerous” outlets. The distrib also said the companies are jointly seeking strategic co-acquisitions to employ a co-releasing strategy.

Three-year-old XLrator Media specializes in multiplatform releasing for genre movies. Titles include “Ironclad” (pictured), “John Carpenter’s The Ward,” “Bunraku,” “96 Minutes,” “Thale” and its most recent release, “Storm Surfers 3D.”

“XLrator has cultivated a powerful niche in the content world that has strong appeal in the pay television and free television arena,” said Open Road topper Tom Ortenberg.

The deal was negotiated on behalf of Open Road Films by Ortenberg and Elliott Kleinberg. Barry Gordon and Michel Urich negotiated on behalf of XLrator.
