George Clooney is set to star in and direct Sony's WWII heist pic

After assembling a stellar ensemble cast, George Clooney has brought on newcomer Dimitri Leonidas to round out the cast of WWII heist pic “The Monuments Men.”

The cast already includes Clooney, Matt Damon, Bill Murray, John Goodman and Cate Blanchett with Clooney directing.

Based on the Robert Edsel book, it’s the true story of a WWII platoon tasked by FDR with rescuing artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves in Germany and returning them to their rightful owners.

The film is a co-production between Sony and Fox for which Clooney and his producing partner, Grant Heslov, penned the script.

Clooney and Heslov are producing through their Smokehouse Productions banner. Barbara A. Hall is executive producer.

The Independent Talent Group-repped Leonidas is best known for his role in “Centurion,” starring Michael Fassbender, and was most recently seen in the indie “Animals.”

  1. NO WAY! this is so totally awesome!….I am working on a video on the Degenerate Art Exhibition of 1937 (the exhibition featuring the modernist artwork he later sold or burned) and this entire topic not only sheds new light on the impact of WWll but Monuments Men will be like movie Argo, in the way that it tell a story that is, well – unbelievable (you can’t make this stuff up)

Go Clooney! and please hire me to work on this film if you need any local art historians. This is a movie of a lifetime for an art historian
