eOne said it will release “Diana,” — which focuses on the last two years of her life — late this year, indicating that it will probably launch an awards campaign. It also plans major releases in the U.K., Canada and Spain.
Footage was shown to buyers at Cannes last week.
“We are thrilled to be bringing Diana home from Cannes,” said eOne’s Dylan Wiley. “’Diana’ will give audiences worldwide a chance to not only fall in love with the Princess all over again, but also discover a part of her life up until now kept out of the public eye.”
The acquisition of “Diana” comes with eOne continuing to amp up its U.S. distribution operations. Upcoming releases include Jim Mickle’s “We Are What We Are,” Brian de Palma’s “Passion” and Sergio Castellitto’s “Twice Born.”
The deal was negotiated by Tim Haslam for Embankment Films and Ecosse Films and Jo Sweby for eOne.
