Universal Says No Truth to Matt Damon, Paul Greenglass Re-Teaming for New ‘Bourne’ Film

Bourne Films Matt Damon Paul Greengrass

A report had the two in negotiations to return

While the idea sounds appealing, it seems like fans will not be getting another Jason Bourne film starring Matt Damon anytime soon as Universal has said there is no truth to the rumor Damon and director Paul Greengrass are in negotiations to return for another ‘Bourne’ feature.

Twitchfilm reported that the studio was in talks with both men to return for a new installment in the franchise but sources with the studio are denying the story saying there is nothing going on between the studio and Damon and Greengrass.

Universal recently hired Anthony Peckham to pen the next installment in the franchise that stars Jeremy Renner.

Rumors of Damon and Greengrass returning to the franchise have been circulating going all the way the back to before “The Bourne Legacy” was even released, and the idea isn’t completely outlandish of having two separate films given the success of both pics and the opportunity for a cross-over.

Thank heaven! The last two didn’t make any sense. If only someone at Universal had been at Disney to stop Johnny from looking like an idiot with a dead bird on his head. Someone at Universal needs to be promoted for this decision.

Ummm….The Bourne Ultimatum made sense. Legacy did too, but just was derivative and not very inspiring overall. Ultimatum rocked!

I would rather not have any more Matt Damon/ Paul Greengrass nonsense. Its pathetic how Greengrass has to use shaky camera to make Matt damon look like a fighter, and I like the cutting edge science angle better then the tired old cold war BS. Legacy was a much more appealing film. I hope Matt is done sucking up money from us fans. Just because Elysium is awful doesn’t mean he can just change his mind.

    • Jack says:

Legacy was an OK movie but a bad sequel. Jason’s journey stands on its own.

I think Legacy was a pretty great action movie but with impossible predecessors and expectations to live up to completely. Agreed–the Jason Bourne story line/journey must be its own, as maybe will Cross’ now but with overlaps. I do like the fact that we do have a Bourne “universe” now though; provides the opportunities for more stories for every character, or even new ones. If anything, Legacy at least accomplished that.

jeremy renner was a total bust on the last bourne film. It was perhaps the most made-up hollywood version of how to ruin a franchise in franchise history. MATT DAMON IS Jason Bourne. Renner is a mediocre actor; boring at best. Universal is a fool. If renner ends up being Bourne, the franchise is DONE

    • Kwit says:

Confused–Renner was Aaron Cross, not and never will be Jason Bourne, so no worries there. I don’t think that was suggested at all in Legacy. Granted, the character of Cross deserved a lot more development to inch up his intrigue, but in no means was he supposed to be Bourne or even be like Bourne. I actually felt Renner was one of the few things that saved the movie from being a convoluted, complete failure of a plot. Theres more questions to be answered about Cross than Bourne at this point anyway, since Bourne was so goal oriented that he didn’t hold much more intrigue for me after he, well, reached his goal in Ultimatum. Before you say boring at best for Renner though, may recommend watching 12 and Holding, the assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert ford, the town, the hurt locker, and neo ned, for starts, or anything other than his 12 minutes of partially brainwashed screentime in the avengers (which he was admittedly boring at times cause he was practically a robot for 8 minutes of it).

Somebody please forward this URL to Paul Greengrass. He will be pleased to learn of this miracle used widely in filmmaking. http://www.sachtler.com/us/
