Acquisition follows buyers-only promo screening

Magnolia Pictures has acquired U.S. rights to Lars von Trier’s “Nymphomaniac” following a buyers-only promo screening at the European Film Market in Berlin.

The deal was negotiated between Magnolia’s senior VP of acquisitions, Dori Begley, and director of acquisitions, Peter van Steemburg, and TrustNordisk’s CEO Rikke Ennis, and head of sales, Susan Wendt.

The film, which is produced by Zentropa’s Louise Vesth, recounts the erotic life history of a nymphomaniac, played by Charlotte Gainsbourg.

The ensemble cast includes Stellan Skarsgard, Stacy Martin, Shia LaBeouf, Jamie Bell, Christian Slater, Uma Thurman, Willem Dafoe and Udo Kier.

The pic previously was acquired for Australia and New Zealand (Transmission Films), France (Les Films du Losange), U.K./Ireland (Artificial Eye), Benelux (Wildbunch), Greece/Cyprus (Seven Films), Germany/Austria (Concorde), CIS (Central Partnership), Czech Rep./Slovakia (AeroFilms), ex-Yugoslavia (Cinemania Groupicon), Poland (Gutek Film), Estonia (Estin Film), Lithuania/Latvia (Acme Film), Romania (Independenta Films´97), Bulgaria (Art Fest) and Brazil (California Films).
