Tom Hardy starrer marks the first 3D installment for the iconic action series

Blazing into theaters nearly three years after shooting began, Warner Bros. has dated its fourth “Mad Max” movie, “Fury Road,” for release on May 15, 2015.

The film, which began filming in summer 2012, stars Tom Hardy, Nicholas Hoult and Charlize Theron. George Miller, who directed the previous three installments, returns to helm “Fury Road.”

Warners and Village Roadshow will release the film in 3D.

“Fury Road” marks the second May release for the franchise: the series’ second installment, “The Road Warrior,” bowed May 21, 1982, and grossed $23.7 million. The third film, “Mad Max Thunderdome,” stands as the franchise’s biggest grosser, with $36.2 million domestically in 1985.

The reason they filmed this new version without Mel Gibson was that he was insisting it be called “Mad Max: Sugar T*ts.”

  3. Hobart says:

Mad Max without Mel Gibson…really? Mel Gibson IS Mad Max.

    • Mike says:

Recycle, remake, re-brand…regurgitate! You look at the crap coming out of all the studios and you realize that Elliott and Rossio are precisely right… The leadership in Hollywood is chock full of idiots. It’s quite amazing to behold. They really are too stupid to get out of their own way. From the studio heads down to the CE’s…one huge brain suck. Unbelievable…
