DeAPlaneta sells content to HBO Latam, Lap TV

Spain’s DeAPlaneta Intl. has clinched a raft of sales, including deals with key Latin American pay TV operators HBO and Lap TV.

Deals underscore Latin America’s growing relevance for Spanish pic production, as the local film market languishes, ravaged by the deep economic crisis and piracy.

HBO Latin America took Miguel Courtois Paternina’s Colombia-set political drama “Operation E,” starring Luis Tosar, in a deal negotiated by HBO’s Alejandro Sacasa with DeAPlaneta Intl. sales manager Gorka Bilbao.

Helmer Carlos Theron’s Harvard-set comedy “Fuga de cerebros 2″ (Brain Drain 2) and Carlos Theron’s actioner “Poker Face” lead a package of films bought by Lap TV for its premium film channel, Movie City.

Pan-Latin America pay TV rights on psychological thriller “The Body” — a Sony-distributed B.O. hit in Spain that has made north of €6 million ($8 million) — were acquired by Mexico’s Quality Films.
