James Wan is directing upcoming sequel

After bringing out a fresh face in UFC star Ronda Rousey to join the cast of “Fast & Furious 7,” Universal has moved onto veteran actor to join its acting ranks with Kurt Russell in negotiations to join the next installment.

No description on who Russell would be playing, but sources say it is the role that Uni originally offered to Denzel Washington — clearly showing its importance to the films story.

“Fast & Furious 7″ brings back most of its talent from the franchise, including Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, producer Neal H. Moritz and writer Chris Morgan with James Wan coming on as director.

Moritz and Diesel return as producers.

No plot details have been unveiled yet, except that the film will return to Los Angeles after the previous five films were set in other locations. Co-President of Production Jeff Kirschenbaum and Creative Executive Jay Polidoro will oversee the project on behalf of Universal.

This May’s “Fast & Furious 6″ is the highest grossing film for Universal, having made more than $750 million at the worldwide box office.

The CAA-repped Russell has taken it easy on how what roles he has taken in recent years with his last major film being Quentin Tarantino’s “Death Proof.”

i will also be going to the theater if kurt russel is in it but i also like denzel

  2. If Russell is actually in this thing it will lead to the very first time I’ve seen a Fast and Furious at the theaters.

Dear Hollywood: please put just a modicum of energy and money into producing something with at least a trace of originality, creativity, and/or intelligence; and let this inane, vacuous piece of shit franchise die the horrible death it deserves.

    • I’m not really a fan of the franchise but a lot of people obviously enjoy it. What do you care if they continue to get more slickly made entries of something they enjoy? How can it possibly impact your life if you just choose not to watch them? I don’t like Harry Potter or Twilight so I don’t watch the non-Rifftrax versions. Everyone wins. Maybe if you did the same you will avoid sounding ironically unoriginal yourself, and then come down from the cliff overlooking Whoville.

ya, umm…please don’t! this franchise can do without him.

Kurt Russell and Harrison Ford are now at an age where they can play all kinds of characters and are no longer restricted to playing ‘leading men.’ I hope Kurt get’s back into the game. He’s a tremendous actor.

  6. Carl R White says:

I am sure it can be a big payday for Kurt but at this point in his life and career does he really need the crap that is the “Fast and the Furious”?
    Ahhh, I know, I am a naive romantic……..
