Joss Whedon: Ben Affleck Will ‘Crush It’ As Batman

joss whedon

One of the world’s biggest fanboy figures came out in full support of the new Batman on Friday night.

Joss Whedon, director of “The Avengers,” tweeted that Ben Affleck will “crush it” in the upcoming Batman-Superman feature.

“He’s got the chops, he’s got the chin — just needs the material,” he wrote. “Affleck & Cavill toe to toe — I’m in.”

Whedon’s tweet followed a wave of “Batfleck” backlash on the Internet after Warner Bros. and DC Comics made the announcement Thursday.

His comments also temporarily cooled any perceived rivalry between Marvel’s “Avengers” and DC’s own all-star fleet The Justice League.

The Zack Snyder-directed Batman-Superman feature arrives in theaters July 17, 2015, just two months after Whedon’s “Avengers” sequel opens in May.

Ben has no freaking range. You can’t go from Bale, a method acting monster, to wimpy ass Ben in two, three years and not expect the same fanboys to sit idolly by and not pitch a fit.
    Lol!
The studios are so freaking quick to cash in on a re-boot just moments after the last take on a product wraps up.
And what’s with Joss saying Ben has the “CHIN”? Do any of you old dogs remember Ishtar? HUMMMMMMM! Hoffman and Beaty together…. Can you imagine the pitch for that monumental bs.

  2. Brian says:

yeah joss whedon says ben affleck will crush it that coming from the guy who is apart of the marvel movie franchise and he is silently saying to himself he will crush it literally he will kill batman. Seriously if there going to cast this god awful actor as Batman then let superman kill him and leave Batman alone since Warner bros thinks he is the best choice yea that’s like saying bin laden is a good choice for president of the united states retarded isn’t it

  3. Uncle Morty says:

    THE TOWN

  4. Ben Affleck will do fine. He cannot be Mr.Nice-guy even as Bruce Wayne. Must illustrate with his body language that he is in complete control of the situation, and aggressive, even arrogant.

  5. Reny says:

Thank you oh brilliant one Whedon for actually getting how genius this casting is and for being gracious enough to say it about the “competition”, once again showing that class, show business and genius are not mutually exclusive qualities.

  6. Lisa says:

I had the same thought about his chin (lol).

  7. The Kingslayer says:

Wow finally a tweet from a sane person.

  8. Josh says:

So who’s going to play daredevil now. Lol! Ah Hollywood sometimes blind deaf and not in sync with the public. Casting of new James Bond was Amazing, ironman was shockingly on point. I love batman franchise, and Mr. Nolan was the reason it was such a amazing property. I like Ben, but not as batman. Would have been interesting as one if the villains. Now if Nolan give his blessing… Look out. He rarely is off.

  9. brad says:

There is really nothing to report here. What else would he say?

  10. Bro. M.O. says:

Joss Whedon trolling WB Studios/DC Comics.

  11. Arnie Tracey says:

You’re Joshin’ right? Ben? Ben Affect (sic).

Josh you’re a shill. A fraud. Devolved into a half-baked MO ron, simply shilling for the studio.

Josh, you’re stinkin’ up the joint, by blowing smoke.

    Get a REAL job, son.

Let Ben go ahead and tank on his own.

    {Love yah, Ben. How’s tricks, babe? Nah . . . You’re gonna be great. I agree with Josh. . . . Would I lie to you, babe? Anyway . . . How’re the kids? . . . Really? Wow? Already?}

  12. G. Jardoness says:

Mr. Affleck can certainly nail the whole brooding thing. As for any intensity or inner rage or authentic emotions? But, anything that gets Josh and the rest of the world’s comic-book loving, emotionally-stunted simpletons out of Stan Lee’s grandmother’s basement must be a good thing?

  13. BigEd says:

Yea, he’s TOTALLY gonna crush it (says the guy in direct competition with the movie who could only be glad that WB found a way to commit suicide with an already-hyped future franchise). “Age of Ultron” is starting to look good again.

  14. Gary Ormsbee says:

Joss Whedon , it doesn’t get much better than that !!

  15. Just Confused says:

You may be able to announce “A STAR IS BORN!”

*this last thought above goes with the main comment shown in the earlier “Just Confused” section. Fone decided to stick it’s tongue out at me. Maybe it’s a “BAT-AFFLECK” fanfone?

  16. Just Confused says:

I THINK BEN WILL DO FINE BY BATMAN AS WELL. BUT, CONSIDERING THE “DEARTH” OF SILVER SCREEN LEADING MEN CURRENTLY, WOULD THIS NOT HAVE BEEN A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO CREATE A NEW ONE AND EXPAND THE RANKS A LITTLE? GIVE AN “UNKNOWN” NEW-COMER A CHANCE TO “STRETCH THEIR WINGS” AND BRING A NEW EAGER inexpensive FACE TO THE HOLLYWOOD FOREFRONT.

Somewhere in Hollywood right now there is a “CAPE”able young actor who could nail this and only languishes for lack of an opportunity. Let the NEW TALENT cut a break WB and a year from now you may ne able to

    • Uhhhhhh says:

The whole point was casting an older, more aged and bitter batman (if that’s even possible). The words “new, eager, unknown, inexpensive” all = young.

  17. Nanny Mo says:

I’m sure he’ll be fine, and I mean that. But I’m not going to be seeing it. If WB puts $200M into the show, I hope it plays well in China.

  18. bhash says:

I know hes going to crush it. You crazy fan boyssaid the same about my man Heath

    • NOBEN says:

Stop using the Heath comparison because it does not comply try being original Ben is a terrible actor with no range and very unfit to play a comic book character hence Daredevil Heath was a good actor to begin with not many people complained and they damn sure didn’t start a petition so give up with that lame excuse he’s going to suck that’s all there is to it
