‘American Hustle’ Writer: Jennifer Lawrence Is ‘Like a Brick Through a Plate Glass Window, That’s How Solid She Is’

WGA West's Behind the Screen Reception Toasts Award Season's Writers

Who says writers are cranky? At WGAW’s “Behind the Screen” reception at the Capital Grille Oct. 10, overwhelming gratitude was the pervasive statement.

The annual event serves as the WGA’s kickoff to awards season.

American Hustle” writer Eric Warren Singer allowed that he was thankful to Sony, producer Charles Roven, director David O. Russell and Jennifer Lawrence.

Jennifer Lawrence is like a brick through a plate glass window.” he mused. “That’s how solid she is.”

“I have Tom Hanks and Paul Greengrass handling my script so I feel pretty secure,” noted “Captain Phillips” writer Billy Ray.

Scott Cooper, who wrote and directed the upcoming “Out of the Furnace,” asserted he was especially pleased that “Crazy Heart” star Jeff Bridges had proclaimed it as one of the best films he’s seen. “That meant a lot,” he added.

“Thor: The Dark World” writer Christopher Yost allowed that having attended Comic-Con for a dozen years had prepped him for dealing with the expectations of a Marvel franchise film — particularly those fans who dress up as Tom Hiddleston‘s Loki character. “When you get back to Comic-Con each year, it’s as if you never left,” he added.

Yost and co-writer Stephen McFeely said they were grateful that the film is dedicated to the late screenwriter Don Payne, who passed away in March. “Don was the nicest guy to us,” Yost said.
