Jamie Foxx, Oliver Stone Eye Martin Luther King Film

Jamie Foxx Oliver Stone Martin Luther

Pic will be a DreamWorks/Warner Bros. co-production

After hitting a home run with “Lincoln,” DreamWorks looks ready to take on another prominent historical figure. DreamWorks and Warner Bros. are in early talks with Oliver Stone to direct and Jamie Foxx to star as Martin Luther King Jr. in an untitled biopic.

Both studios have been trying to get the picture up and running for some time, after putting the project into development in 2009 when it was supposed to team with Warner Bros. for a co-production.

The MLK drama is still far away from a greenlight but getting both Stone and Foxx to sign would speed up the process.

Pic would follow the famous civil rights activist from his rise all the way to his assassination in 1968.

Kario Salem wrote the original script with Steven Spielberg, Suzanne De Passe, Madison Jones and Samuel Nappi producing.

Both Foxx and Stone are no strangers to tackling projects dealing with historical events and iconic individuals — Stone with “JFK,” “World Trade Center” and “W” and Foxx with Ray Charles in “Ray,” for which he won an Oscar.

Foxx is repped by CAA and Montone/Yorn and was last seen in “White House Down.” Stone is also repped by CAA and last directed “Savages.”

  1. deb says:

that is just so unnecessary..a IQ would be better suited to respond.

  2. James says:

Jamie the racist Foxx would be the worst choice for this role! He is an utter disgrace to black America and relations, and the polar opposite of MLK! Shame on looney toons Stone for even considering this POS Bigot!!

  3. Gas Passer says:

I bet Oliver gets with that vile racist Jesse Jackson to revise racism in the worst way. Maybe Oliver will show where Jesse is spitting in white peoples food while he worked a some greasy spoon. A movie that I won’t be watching….by the way.

  4. Red says:

Jamie Foxx and Oliver Stone should get married, they deserve each other!

  5. I guess they like making movies about Republicans

  6. potvin99 says:

Liberal nuts telling MLK’s story? What a disgrace.

  7. Jeff Sherman says:

Please don’t cast that moronic racist to play MLK.

  8. Rich N says:

OMG, another ‘blockbuster’ I won’t be seeing.

  9. MainStreet says:

If Stone wants to make a movie true to the life of MLK, then he needs to plagiarize the script.

  10. Elliot says:

Jamie Foxx said after making Django unchained that he was glad that “in this movie he got to kill all the white people.” If black America is serious about doing a major movie about Martin Luther King, they shouldn’t use a cheap bigot as the lead actor for it.

  11. Stinky Man says:

    Just look at the photo

  12. steve says:

I think Jamie Foxxxxxx should play every noted black person who ever lived! He’d be great as Billie Holliday…

  13. 5 hundred years from now (if the USA is still around), are we going to continue making movies about this? 5 hundred years from now, everyone here will probably have nothing to do w/ this part of US history. But, there will always be people like these that want to perpetuate this to make money. RIDICULOUS!

  14. Hobbs says:

I will never watch another Jamie Foxx movie for as long as I live!

  15. harry georgatos says:

the last brilliant political film Oliver Stone made was the precise JFK which is a masterpiece of filmmaking! Stone’s other political films NIXON and W are unmitigated disasters. NIXON is bombastic and certain scenes are tedious and exhausting to watch! W is probably the worse film Stone has made and lets George Bush off the hook.

  16. Hurley says:

With Jamie Foxx, it’s another hating liberal movie I won’t be paying to seeing!

  17. Carolina 65 says:

One of my favorite quotes is “Nothing in the world is more dangerous than conscientious stupidity and sincere ignorance” MLK 1963. Stone and Foxx are great examples of both.

  18. Should b a lot of graphic sex scenes in it.

  19. h-town says:

Cool. Another historically accurate Oliver Stone documentary, “Martin Luther King and Zombies—in Space.”

  20. Corpseman57 says:

Please inform Jamie Foxx that he won’t be seeing any of this white woman’s money.

I read what he said about “us.”

  21. IDoubtIt says:

Who better to play the part of a man who lived his life to end racism than a racist?

  22. How can a racist like Jamie Foxx be allowed to plat the great Martin Luther King Jr.?
If this happens Martin will roll over in his grave!

  23. Sir Boris says:

They would have to give it an R rating to save the Children.

  24. eduardo says:

that is GWBush, Obama is Bush in blackface.

  25. The grape says:

I hope they let every one know his assassin, James earl ray was a democrat!

  26. I wonder who will play the part of the prostitutes?

  27. Why Jamie Fox? He’s black but that’s about all. He looks or acts nothing like MLK.

  28. DeeDee says:

Hope they will at least be honest, and show where Jesse Jackson, complicit in the killing, escorted Martin Luther King to the balcony that night.

  29. Dane15 says:

Starring James Woods as the Shooter…

  30. Willie R Burge says:

I would like to see a movie with Jamie Foxx playing Dr Martin Luther King Jr From his Birth up until he was Killed in Mongomery,AL. He is one of my Hero’s, I wish we could have racial harmony in our nation

  31. IMPEACHOBAMA says:

Oh, well, if Stoner is directing then we just know its gonna be factual…kinda like JFK, NIXON, Born on the Fourth of July,,Platoon…shall I go on….

Stoner has about as much credibility as a screen door on a submarine,

Isn’t it ironic that the Sean Pinheads, Michael Morons & Oliver Stoners in Hollywood, who have made themselves wealthy off Americans, in America, are the same ones who are critical of America, Americans & capitalism.

Liberals are the biggest bunch of hypocrites in the USA!

  32. Will says:

Race’s were supposed to come together under this administration.

Instead, we are more divided than ever.

If this film comes to fruition, the great Doctor’s message will be eternally lost.

Portrayed by an admitted racist, and all for the love of money.

I think I am going to be sick.

  33. ImJustAGuy says:

If Jamie Foxx is in it, I won’t watch it!

  34. Sean says:

This is overkill. Don’t bother. Let’s just get through the next three years.

  35. Realist says:

Jamie Foxx playing MLK Jr. is like Andy Dick playing JFK.

  36. news says:

Brutal dictator supporter Oliver Stone will make another propaganda movie to demonize others ..

  37. JeffT says:

    True dat!

  38. Oinia says:

Jamie Foxx – “As a black person it’s always racial…Every single thing in my life is built around race.”

Gee, what an astonishingly poor choice to portray the man who inspired the world with his Dream of a color blind society of racial harmony.

  39. el polacko says:

MLK, jr. was also a registered republican. do think either foxx or stone are even aware of that fact ?

  40. mike says:

Terrance Howard would be a much better MLK choice. He played him in the movie “Boycott” and did an excellent job. That was with a different director. Oliver Stone, I don’t know what he would do with the material.

  41. el polacko says:

    jamie foxx ?!?? NOOOOOOOOO !!!

  42. Major Kaoss says:

Dumb and dumber. …. and we all know Stone is the proverbial “burning bush” on the mount. Look how factual “JFK” was.

  43. lou says:

Yep, and with their leftist points of view, the actor and director/producer will make Martin Luther King Jr. out to be a far left progressive and forget than this great man was foremost a dedicated Baptist preacher. All the folks on the right will be demonized and most likely will be accused for plotting MLK’s death. I told you their story. No need to spend any money to see the movie.

  44. MC Squared says:

Let’s see….A chance for Stone to demonize Eisenhower and Nixon again while throwing laurels at Kennedy and Johnson..Expect something about the racist South but no mention of Senator Byrd or other Democrats who fought Civil Rights legislation….Any chance that Stone will show that a greater percent of GOP voted for it than Dems?…..Wonder if Spike Lee is having a fit (“Whites shouldn’t direct films about black people”)…….

  45. Another Jamie Fox movie that I wont go see…..which is pretty much all of them.

  46. Kenny says:

I’ll bet the fact MLK was a Republican will never be revealed in the movie.

  47. Flannigan says:

Hollywood will happily play fast and loose with the facts. Watch for:
    1) MLK being a Democrat.
    2) Jim Crow, Bull Connor, his dogs and fire hoses all being framed as Republicans.

  48. Carl Goolsby says:

Oh, please as if we need more sleeping time…Yawn!
