James Gandolfini to Be Honored by Gotham Independent Film Awards

James Gandolfini will be honored at the 23rd Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards next month, it was announced Wednesday.

Gandolfini joins previously announced tributees Forest Whitaker, Richard Linklater and Katherine Oliver.

Joana Vicente, Executive Director of the Independent Filmmaker Project, announced the honor by saying, “We are honored to pay tribute to a man whose life and work has inspired and moved so many who knew him personally, or through his vast body of work on the stage and screen, where he collaborated with so many independent artists to bring to life unforgettable, iconic characters.”

Steve Buscemi, who will present the tribute, said, “James Gandolfini was a friend, an inspiration, and an extraordinary talent whose presence is missed by all of us who knew and loved him. It is an honor to present this tribute at the Gotham Awards recognizing his impact.”

The Gotham Independent Film Awards take place on Monday, December 2nd at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City.

  1. Yes, James Gandolfini is missed and I am happy that he is being honored at the Gotham Awards. My boy, actor Brandon Hannan who played Vito Spatafore, Jr. (the goth one), thinks the world of him. Jimmy was kind to him on set and was always interested in what Brandon was doing whenever they met. He will always be regarded by us as a gentle, generous man with heart and talent as big as he was.
