Ismailia Film Festival

Mohamed Hefzy to relaunch docus and shorts event

Egypt’s Ismailia Intl. Film Festival is launching the first co-production mart dedicated exclusively to documentaries in the Middle East and North Africa.

It’s the first move made by its new topper, Egyptian producer Mohamed Hefzy who aims to relaunch the docus and shorts event, now in its 16th edition, as an important incubator for cinematic renewal in the region. Docus are the most common genre used to depict the changes under way due to political turbulence in countries such as Egypt and Tunisia.

Fest also showcases experimental and animation titles in different formats.

Ismailia announced it will feature a tribute to prolific Italian multihyphenate Gian Vittorio Baldi whose production credits include Pier Paolo Pasolini’s Porcile.

The Ismailia fest, which is located in a port city on the west bank of the Suez Canal, will run June 4-9.
