Don Mitchell, who played Mark Sanger, one of the detective assistants to Raymond Burr’s titular wheelchair-bound former police chief in NBC’s 1960s and ’70s crime drama “Ironside,” died of natural causes on Sunday at his Encino home, according to the Los Angeles Times. He was 70.

Mitchell was also known for his work in the blaxploitation film “Scream Blacula Scream,” with Pam Grier and William Marshall, and had parts on “I Dream of Jeannie” and “The Fugitive.”

He returned to the role of Mark Sanger for the 1993 TV movie “The Return of Ironside.”

NBC’s short-lived revamp of “Ironside” ran for four episodes this year and starred Blair Underwood, Brent Sexton and Pablo Schreiber.
