‘Iron Man 3’ Hits $1 Billion Worldwide

Well, that was fast.

After 23 days of release, “Iron Man 3” officially crossed the $1 billion mark at the global box office Thursday while also hitting $300 million domestically.

Iron Man 3” becomes the first billion-dollar performer of 2013 and the second Marvel/Disney collaboration to reach the billion dollar benchmark after “The Avengers” cumed $1.6 bil worldwide last year.

In 2012, “The Avengers” reached $1 billion in just 19 days of release, tying “Avatar” for the all-time record.

Starring Robert Downey Jr., “Iron Man 3” has amassed $698.9 million overseas, including $104 million in China.

The superhero threequel is the ninth Disney to film to reach $1 billion at the global B.O., following “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest,” “Alice in Wonderland,” “Toy Story 3” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” in addition to “The Avengers.”
