Kudos return to Santa Monica

When the 29th annual Film Independent Spirit Awards take place on March 1, they will not only return to IFC as part of a new two-year deal with the cabler, they will also have a newly added category for editing.

The Indie Spirits made these announcements today, along with a call for submissions, guidelines for which can be found at the kudos’ official website.

The final deadline for submissions is Oct. 15. Nominations will be announced on Nov. 26.

IFC will air the kudos in the evening after they take place at their familiar tent on the beach in Santa Monica.

“IFC has been our longtime broadcast partner, and we’re thrilled to be renewing with them for the next two years,” said Film Independent prexy Josh Welsh. “We’re also very happy to be recognizing editors in the Spirit Awards this coming year.  The critical importance of editing in the filmmaking process cannot be overstated, and it’s something we look forward to celebrating at the Spirit Awards.”

The Spirit Awards are the primary fundraiser for Film Independent’s year-round programs in support of emerging filmmakers and diversity in the industry.
