Image Entertainment has set a Feb. 15 VOD release date and a March 1 theatrical launch in 15 U.S. markets for “Day of the Falcon,” starring Antonio Banderas, Mark Strong, Freida Pinto and Tahar Rahim.
Image acquired domestic rights to “Falcon” during AFM. The $40 million production is directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud. and had its worldwide premiere at the Doha Tribeca Film Festival in 2011.
Warner Brothers and Universal Pictures International have released the film overseas.
“Day of the Falcon” is the story of the rivalry between two Emirs in the Arabia Peninsula in the early 20th Century just as oil is being discovered, and the rise of a leader who unites the tribes.
The movie is an adaptation of Hans Ruesch’s novel “The Great Thirst” and is a co-production between Quinta Communications and Doha Film Institute. It was shot in Tunisia and Qatar.
Recent Image Entertainment releases include Spike Lee’s “Red Hook Summer”; “The Tall Man,” starring Jessica Biel; “Goats,” starring David Duchovny, Vera Farmiga and Keri Russell and “The Double,” with Richard Gere and Topher Grace.
