'Les Miserables,' 'Lincoln,' 'Zero' round out sound mixing nods

Five live-action pics made the cut for the Cinema Audio Society’s nominations for outstanding achievement in sound mixing: “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” “Les Miserables,” “Lincoln,” “Skyfall” and “Zero Dark Thirty.”

In addition, CAS added a new animated motion picture category, “Brave,” “Frankenweenie,” “The Lorax,” “Rise of the Guardians” and “Wreck-it Ralph” the inaugural nominees.

In television, CAS recognized “American Horror Story,” “Breaking Bad,” “30 Rock” and “Deadliest Catch” with noms.

According to CAS prexy David E. Fluhr, this year marks the first-ever recognition for ADR and Foley mixers. Additional sub-categories include efforts for production mixing, re-recording mixing and scoring mixing.

Awards will take place at the Millennium Biltmore in downtown L.A. on Feb. 16. The CAS Career Achievement Award will be presented to production sound mixer Chris Newman and the CAS Filmmaker Award will go to Jonathan Demme.
