HK Asian Festival Strong On First Features

Benny Chan's 'White Storm' to open event

HONG KONGBenny Chan’s action thriller “The White Storm” will have its world premiere as the opening film of the upcoming Hong Kong Asia Film Festival (Oct. 25 – Nov. 19).

The festival, which takes place at multiple Broadway Cinema venues around the territory, will close with a screening of Bong Joon-ho’s “Snowpiercer.”

The HKAFF’s ‘Cineaste Delights’ section includes festival hits “Like Father, Like Son,” “Real,” “Moebius,” and “A Time In Quchi.”

Its ‘New Talent Awards’ section looks particularly strong as it includes “Ilo, Ilo,” “The Lunchbox,” “Transit,” “Juvenile Offender,” “Bends,” and “Rigor Mortis.”

The fest also has room for an ‘Asian Wide Angle’ section; a seven title tribute to Cambodia’s Rithy Panh, including his latest “The Missing Picture;” four documentaries from Taiwan and a trio of restored classics by Indian master Satyajit Ray.

“The White Storm” (pictured) features Sean Lau Ching-wan, Louis Koo and Nick Cheung as a trio of cops whose loyalty is tested to breaking point by a mission to capture South East Asia’s biggest drug lord.
