Helmers Kim, Chung set for Busan West

South Korea's top film fest expands on California connection

South Korean helmers Kim Jee-woon and Chung Chang-hwa will be among guests at Busan West, the third pan-Asian film fest staged by Chapman U’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts in partnership with South Korea’s Busan Film Festival, Asia’s largest event.

Fest is expanding its program and introducing competitions for narrative shorts and documentary shorts at the 2013 event, set to take place March 8-10 on the Chapman campus in Orange, Calif.

The winning films, to be announced at the closing night reception, will unspool at Busan in October.

Curated by Dodge College Prof. Nam Lee, an expert in Pan-Asian film, Busan West brings notable films and filmmakers to the U.S. to increase their profile outside of Asia.

Previous guests include writer-director Bong Joon-ho and multi-hyphenate Park Chan-wook.
