“Gravity” crossed the $200 million mark on Monday as Warner Bros.’ 3D pic continues to reach new heights at the global box office.
Having already won back-to-back weekends domestically, “Gravity” took in an additional $6.2 million on Monday in the U.S. to bring its total to $128.5 million since Oct. 4.
Overseas, the Alfonso Cuaron pic has added $71.9 million.
Buoyed largely by 3D ticket sales, “Gravity” is one of the few movies to break out during the usually hauntingly slow month of October.
The Sandra Bullock-starrer should continue its winning streak this weekend for its third consecutive No. 1 domestically, barring a surprise victory from MGM’s “Carrie” remake or Sony holdover “Captain Phillips.” Sylvester Stallone’s “Escape Plan” is also opening.
Looking ahead, the only other major October releases are 20th Century Fox’s “The Counselor” and Paramount’s Jack-Ass spinoff “Bad Grandpa” on Oct. 25, so while the odds are slim, given the financial and cultural buzz around “Gravity,” an October sweep of four No. 1 weekends is not entirely out of the picture.
