Golden Globes Voters Bring Home the Bacon

The Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. threw a swanky soiree Thursday to celebrate the anointment of Sosie Bacon as Miss Golden Globes, with a high-energy crowd that include Steve Coogan, Colin Farrell and Mark Wahlberg.

HFPA prexy Theo Kingma welcomed the guests at the Fig & Olive in West Hollywood, where Malin Akerman, Julie Delpy, Pharrell Williams, Emile Hirsch, Brie Larson, Uzo Aduba, Abigail Breslin, Amber Tamblyn, Kellan Lutz, Anna Gunn and Jeremy Piven mixed with members of the organization and their guests. The party, hosted by the HFPA and InStyle, was to celebrate the Globe Awards season, with many contenders and strategists congratulating themselves for passing the halfway mark of the frenzied kudos campaign trail.

In a convo with Variety, Farrell was singing the praises of his “Saving Mr. Banks” director John Lee Hancock. Farrell really appreciated his handling of actors and said what Hancock did for the film “is much more difficult than it looks; it’s hard to make something sweet and simple and heartfelt.”

Coogan also paid homage to “Philomena” director, Stephen Frears. Coogan, who had appeared at the Variety Screening Series the previous night, said that Frears was completely collaborative, even inviting him into the editing room. Coogan, who is definitely in contention as the funniest man in the world, was accepting congrats from partygoers for his work on the film, particularly his screenplay.

The choice of Bacon continues the org’s tradition of selecting offspring of stars, since her parents are Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick. During the press conference announcing her selection, Kingma deadpanned, “this gets us one degree closer to Kevin Bacon.”
