Legendary, Warner Bros. rev up marketing machine for monster movie ahead of film's trailer release
Legendary has started to virally spread the news that “Godzilla” is coming.
The company, along with film’s distributor Warner Bros., won’t unleash “Godzilla” on megaplexes until next May, but Legendary has started to build a mystery around its big lizard, launching a website for the film’s secret research org M.U.T.O.
Site includes a series of scrambled videos with snippets of dialogue, that are meant to set the tone for the upcoming actioner, directed by Gareth Edwards. See the videos below.
Legendary releases the first trailer for the film on Dec. 10; film bows May 16, 2014 — the 60th anniversary of Godzilla — and stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston, Ken Watanabe, Juliette Binoche, David Strathairn and Sally Hawkins.
Marketing machine around the reboot revved up at this year’s Comic-Con in San Diego with a panel and experience.

But in a photo released to IGN on Monday, security officials are shown setting up a quarantine zone around Nevada’s “Devil’s Throat” sinkhole, with a sign that sends people to M.U.T.O.’s classified website.
