George Clooney Saves Masterpieces 'Monuments Men'

Sony-Fox World War II drama opens Dec. 18

George Clooney, Matt Damon and Cate Blanchett are plotting the salvation of artistic masterpieces in “The Monuments Men” in a new trailer, two  months before the offbeat WWII drama opens Dec. 18.

“You want to go into a war zone and tell our boys what they can and what they cannot blow up?” asks Damon’s character at one point. The cast includes Bill Murray, John Goodman and Bob Balaban with Clooney directing.

“Men” is based on the Robert Edsel book of a WWII platoon tasked by FDR with rescuing artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves in Germany and returning them to their rightful owners.

The film is a co-production between Sony and Fox. Clooney and producing partner Grant Heslov wrote the script and are producing through their Smokehouse Productions banner.

    MEANWHILE- – –

CFR front op Hollywood couldn’t find
time, talent or a dim to throw in the direction

Now playing on my converted Timex watch. To see it now, join my platoon of case hardened nincompoops as we sneak into preview rooms with our etchasketches and download every last molecule of integrity and carpet dust that cinema has to offer so that you, our loyal sneaky type can be glued to our YouTube stealth fake channel watching ads for 6 hours with content fit for napping bacteria strains while waiting for our stolen goods to never appear.

The trailer doesn’t excite as much as I would’ve hoped. Seems rather middle brow standard fare.

    • Dre Hund says:

Agreed. Clooney’s narration should be replaced by a real older veterans voice with no training. Trailer in the cinema looked like it had the limitations of the new red cameras. Seemed to have a thinness to the imagery. Didn’t see that issue here, though. Film has an HBO-ish feel to it. Don’t see enough people sweating, or something. Maybe it’s just too much star power. Think of all the great faces Terence Malick used in his Thin Red Line….
But…big movie means big investors. They need some kind of guarantee of return. Here’s hoping I’m completely wrong about this film. I’ll see it anyway. Does anyone remember the director of this after the preview?
