Freestyle nabs VOD, DVD rights to ‘Norman’

Shingle plans for a May 7 release

Freestyle Digital Media has acquired DVD and VOD rights to Jonathan Segal’s drama “Norman” with plans for a May 7 release.

“Norman” stars Emily VanCamp, Dan Byrd, Richard Jenkins, Adam Goldberg and Billy Lush. The film was produced by Kim Blackburn, Dan Keston, Hawk Koch and Jonathan Segal and won the Silver Hugo New Directors competition at the Chicago International Film Festival.

Byrd stars as a self-aware teen whose world is turned around when he meets VanCamp’s character.

Freestyle Digital Media’s slate includes “The Playroom,” starring John Hawkes; “Samsarra”; and “You May Not Kiss the Bride,” starring Katharine McPhee and Rob Schneider. The company launched at the 2011 AFM, touting the digital VOD platform as being capable of increasing independent filmmaker revenues through improved marketing efficiencies of day and date theatrical, and optimizing returns from direct-to-video releases.
