Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes will produce board to produce

Frank Grillo is set to star in Universal and Blumhouse’s “The Purge 2,” the sequel to the 2012 hit starring Ethan Hawke.

James DeMonaco is returning to write and direct the sequel.

Jason Blum of Blumhouse will produce through his first-look deal with Universal. Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes and Sebastien Lemercier are also returning to produce.

Plot details are still under wraps, except that it will be set in the same world where all crime is legalized for a 12-hour period.

Grillo has continued to stay hot as he moves into more leading man material. He can be seen next in “Captain America: Winter Soldier” and is currently filming the indie thriller “Conspiracy on Jekyll Island.”

He is repped by CAA and Management 360. Deadline Hollywood broke the news.
