21st Century Fox Indian unit to co-produce Padukone-Kapoor headed ensemble comedy
HONG KONG — Fox Star Studios has boarded as co-producer on “Finding Fanny” an ensemble comedy from the successful Illuminati Films production label.
The film, which is now-in post-production, is directed by Homi Adajania, who last directed hit “Cocktail” for the Dinesh Vijan and Saif Ali Khan-controlled Illuminati.
The cast is headed by superstar leading lady Deepika Padukone (pictured) opposite Arjun Kapoor, with character actors Naseeruddin Shah, Dimple Kapadia and Pankaj Kapur in supporting roles.
The bilingual story is about a man’s (Kapoor) search for his childhood love and how a dysfunctional group of characters go on a road trip with him to find her. The film is currently in the last days of principal photography.
Fox Star Studios, a five year old joint venture between 21st Century Fox’s units Star Television and 20th Century Fox, has global distribution rights and will release “Finding Fanny” in India on July 4, 2014.
“’Finding Fanny’ is a very important addition to our line-up for 2014. We believe in Homi’s ability to connect universally We were blown away by the script and the film has lined up some of India’s most exciting talent,” said Vijay Singh, CEO of FSS.
The unit has had a strong last 18 months with hits including Vishesh Bhatt’s thriller “Murder 3,” low-budget legal satire “Jolly LLB,” directed by Subhash Kapoor, Rohit Shetty’s “Bol Bachchan” and two films co-produced with Vishesh Films; “Jannat 2” and “Raaz 3.” It also handles Fox’s Hollywood productions and last year saw “Life of Pi” gross $18 million, the unit’s second largest Hollywood score behind “Avatar.”
