Boe Folsgaard was still at Denmark’s National School of Theater and Contemporary Dance when he won the role of the cuckolded King Christian VII in Nicolaj Arcel’s “A Royal Affair,” playing opposite his acting hero Mads Mikkelson. His remarkable effort at humanizing a deeply troubled young man, caricatured by history as a lunatic, earned him the Silver Bear at Berlin. “Seeing him in ‘A Royal Affair,’ one instantly knows that he can play any part,” said the Shooting Star jury. “For his first role, he is simply breathtaking, taking care of every detail, showing incredible physical adeptness. We never see him creating emotions, they are just there.”
