Film Independent announces Directing fellows

Sundance helmer James Ponsoldt is among program vets

Film Independent has announced eight filmmakers for the 2013 Directing Lab.

Program is designed to assist directors by developing features and advancing their filmmaking careers. The 12th annual lab directors are Nicholas Greene, Jacob Hatley, Krisy Gosney, Aldo Velasco, Amber Sealey, Daniel Casey, Morna Ciraki and Alex Moratto.

“Past fellows from our Artist Development programs have gone on to have films at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival as well as earning nominations at this year’s Spirit Awards,” said Jennifer Kushner, Film Independent’s director of artist development. Kushner said she is looking forward to seeing new lab participants experience a similar success.

Lab mentors include Angela Robinson, Karen Moncrieff and Film Independent fellow James Ponsoldt. Ponsoldt’s third feature, “The Spectacular Now,” preemed at Sundance. Other recent projects developed through the Directing Lab include Sheldon Candis’ “LUV,” which preemed at Sundance in 2012.

Lab is provided free to accepted directors, and upon completion, helmers become Film Independent Fellows. Program starts today and continues through mid-April.
