Shooting set to start in spring

Ethan Hawke will star in Alejandro Amenábar’s elevated genre project “Regression,” with shooting expected to start in the spring.

FilmNation Entertainment will begin selling “Regression” at the American Film Market next week for all territories outside the U.S. and Spain. CAA will rep domestic rights.

Amenábar will direct from his own screenplay with the logline kept under wraps. “Regression” will be produced by his longtime partner Fernando Bovaira for his company MOD and by Amenábar’s own Himenoptero banner.

“Alejandro plays in ‘Regression’ with our deepest primal fears to make us feel once again both profoundly human and extremely vulnerable,” Bovaira said.

FilmNation CEO Glen Basner said, “This suspenseful and thrilling story, coupled with what we know will be a truly atmospheric setting, is going to be unforgettable for years to come.”

Hawke starred recently in “The Purge,” “Before Midnight” and “The Getaway.” He also completed shooting this fall in Michael Almereyda’s modern-day adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play “Cymbeline.”

Amenábar’s credits include “The Sea Inside,” which won the best foreign language Oscar in 2004. The Chilean-born Spanish filmmaker also directed “The Others” and “Agora.”

FilmNation’s Allison Silver brought the project in and will be overseeing it on behalf of FilmNation.

Amenábar and Hawke are repped by CAA.
