Companies to co-produce pix, TV shows

LONDON

Endemol India and producer Eros Intl. announced Tuesday an alliance to co-produce three features as well as original TV programming.

The features will have a combined budget of $18.5 million, shared equally by both companies. First up will be a Bollywood romantic comedy, followed by the remake of a south Indian hit and a comic caper. Further details were not available.

The companies will also develop scripted TV shows drawn from Eros’ 2,000 library titles.

Eros CEO Jyoti Deshpande said, “While film co-production has its natural synergies, we will also create original, high-quality, compelling TV content as digitization takes Indian TV into the premium subscription phase.”

Endemol India produces “Bigg Boss,” the Indian version of “Big Brother” and “Khatron ke khiladi,” the local version of “Fear Factor.”

Eros recently teamed with Singapore-based HBO Asia to launch two ad-free movie channels in India. The deal also covers localizing HBO content for India and creating original content for the Indian TV market.
