Emeli Sande played at AIDS Foundation fundraiser
Elton John hosted a rocking Oscar bash to benefit his AIDS Foundation at West Hollywood Park on Sunday.
The highlight was a performance by Scottish rocker Emeli Sande that had guests on their feet dancing.
During the Oscar viewing party, guests bid on such items as a five-day holiday at Steven Tyler’s Hawaiian retreat that went for $250,000, a Chopard timepiece and a private bash at Soho House with a “Great Gatsby” screening for 40.
John threw in four private perfs that went for $250,000 each. He later told the crowd the evening raised an unprecedented $6 million.
“It’s almost become a status event on Oscar night … and gives us an opportunity to raise more money and make more people aware” of AIDS, John said.
Co-host David Furnish said, “Awareness is still important because we are fighting to balance the stigma of the disease with medical advancements.”
But beyond the serious nature of the evening, most guests enjoyed themselves on the dance floor to DJ Johnny Dynell. Attendees included Jeffrey Katzenberg, Dave Grohl, Heidi Klum, Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer, Jenna Elfman, Nia Vardalos and Ian Gomez.
