Open Road has set Eli Roth’s horror-thriller “The Green Inferno” for U.S. release on Sept. 5 — almost exactly one year after its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival’s Midnight Madness section.
Roth directed and produced “Inferno.” He co-wrote the screenplay from his original idea with Guillermo Amoedo, with whom he worked on 2012’s “Aftershock.” Pic centers on a group of student activists who, after crash-landing on a remote location, are held hostage by the native tribe they set out to help save.
“The Green Inferno” stars Lorenza Izzo, Ariel Levy and Daryl Sabara. Both Izzo and Levy co-starred with Roth in “Aftershock.”
The film is produced by Roth, Christopher Woodrow, Molly Connors, Miguel Asenio Llamas and Nicolas Lopez. Open Road bought the film on Sept. 11.
