Valerio Ruiz’s “Behind the White Glasses,” a documentary on filmmaker Lina Wertmuller, is set to start production in Rome in April.
The doc is produced by Paola Lorenzi and Ronald Krauss (“Gimme Shelter”) through Krauss’ Day 28 Films banner as a career tribute to Wertmuller’s 50th anniversary in film, dating back to working with Federico Fellini on “8 1/2.”
Wertmuller has more over 30 films and became the first woman ever to receive an Academy Award nomination for director for “Seven Beauties.”
“White Glasses” will include access into Wertmuller’s personal archives and clips. Ruiz is Wertmuller’s longtime assistant director.
Producers are planning a screening event in November with the Italian consulate general and the Italian Cultural Institute in Los Angeles.
