Disney Bumps ‘The Good Dinosaur’ to 2015, Leaving No Pixar Movies in 2014

Disney Bumps 'The Good Dinosaur' 2015,

'Finding Dory' moves to 2016; 'Maleficent' to bow May 30, 2014

With Disney moving Pixar’s “The Good Dinosaur” from May 30, 2014 to Nov. 25, 2015, the studio has rendered next year the first time since 2005 that the studio won’t release a Pixar film.

The Mouse made a number of changes to its release calendar on Wednesday, including bumping up next year’s “Maleficent” from its originally planned July 2 release to May 30, the date vacated by “The Good Dinosaur.” The studio also bumped Pixar’s “Finding Dory” from Nov. 25, 2015 — now occupied by “Dinosaur” — to June 17, 2016.

The 2014 vacancy for Pixar is the toon shop’s first yearlong-hiatus since 2005. Bookmarking that year was “The Incredibles” in 2004, followed by “Cars” in 2006.

Disney has come to rely on Pixar to lift the studio’s worldwide market share, though the Mouse still is positioned well next year, with “Maleficent” and Marvel’s pair, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and “Guardians of the Galaxy.”

Also included in Disney’s calendar shuffle, the studio moved DreamWorks’ “The Fifth Estate” from a limited bow on Oct. 11 to Oct. 18 in wide release. Disney dated the Kevin Costner-Maria Bello drama “McFarland” to launch Nov. 21, 2014.
