The Hunger Gamesproducer Nina Jacobson (above) has acquired movie rights Kevin Kwan’s comedic novel, “Crazy Rich Asians.”

Jacobson and her partner, Brad Simpson, will produce through their Color Force banner and Bryan Unkeless will oversee development.

Crazy Rich Asians” explores three Chinese families and their reaction to the heir to one of the most massive fortunes in Asia bringing home his American-born Chinese girlfriend to the wedding of the season.

Color Force said the film will be produced outside the studio system. UTA and the author’s reps are working with Color Force to structure financing from Asia and other international sources for the development and production.

The book was published on June 11 by Knopf Doubleday.

“Catching Fire: The Hunger Games” will be released by Lionsgate on Nov. 22 amid expectations of a worldwide gross of $900 million. Production on the third film, “Mockingjay,” is set to begin this fall.
