Copenhagen Film Fund Taps Gammeltoft

Producer to help draw foreign prod'ns to Danish capital

PARIS — Danish producer Thomas Gammeltoft has come on board to take the helm of the Copenhagen Film Fund, starting on Sept. 1.

Gammeltoft, whose production credits include such pics as ”Shake It All About,” and such TV skeins as ”Album,” is currently wrapping up the London-set English-language thriller “Good People,” toplining James Franco, Kate Hudson and Omar Sy.

Gammeltoft heads to the CFF from Eyeworks Fine and Mellow, where he worked as creative director. He previously topped two production outfits, Fine and Mellow and Film & Lyd.

He’s expected to use his broad network within the Danish and international film industries to lure more foreign productions to lense in Copenhagen and its suburbs.

With a E4.7 million ($6.1 million) budget to spread over three years, the Copenhagen Film Fund aims to attract and possibly co-finance foreign film and TV lensings in the city and its surrounding area to build up the local biz’s economic growth and create jobs.

”When it comes to television series and feature films, Denmark is experiencing a momentum as never seen before. We’re winning awards and our creative people, both in front of and behind the camera, are popular and attractive players internationally,” said Gammeltoft.

“The Copenhagen Film Fund has the potential to become a further boon for Danish and international feature films and television series, while also creating growth opportunities for the capital. It has been in the works for a long time and it’s a great honor for me to be part of its formation.”

Jorgen Ramskov, the head of the Copenhagen Film Fund’s board, concurred, “Copenhagen, and the capital region, has enormous potential for attracting international film productions — just recently Copenhagen was declared the world’s greatest city — and with Thomas Gammeltoft at the helm we will be strongly positioned to build on this potential.”

The fund is financed with contributions from the city of Copenhagen, and seven surrounding municipalities (Hvidovre, Ballerup, Frederiksberg, Brondby, Albertslund, Fureso and Helsingor), as well as a number of private investors and trade orgs from the film and TV industry.
