Jerome Enrico comedy toplines Bernadette Lafont
Cohen Media Group has nabbed Gaumont’s sleeper comedy hit “Paulette” for North American distribution.
Helmer Jerome Enrico’s social satire stars Bernadette Lafont (“Le Skylab”) as a grumpy older woman living alone in the projects who decides to become a drug dealer, and proves surprisingly adept at it.
Pic, which played last week at the Unifrance Rendez-Vous market in Paris, is also set to travel to Brazil (Art Films), Switzerland (Monopole-Pathe), Italy (Moviemax), Portugal (Lusomundo), Czech Republic (Hollywood Classic Entertainment) and Canada (A-Z Films), among other territories.
“Paulette” is produced by Alain Goldman’s Legende, which also produced “The Brats” and “Vive La France,” two other laffers on Gaumont’s slate. It has grossed €1.3 million ($1.7 million) in Gaul since its Jan. 16 bow.
Founded in 2008, Cohen has emerged as a leading distrib of upscale foreign-language films, and particularly Gallic fare, such as recent pickups Costa Gavras’ “The Capital” and Francois Ozon’s “In the House.”
