Russo Brothers’ ‘Ciudad’ Gets Film Financing

John Pogue to direct adaptation of graphic novel

Sierra Pictures has come on to finance and produce the adaptation of the graphic novel “Ciudad,” with “The Quiet Ones” helmer John Pogue directing.

The graphic novel was penned by “Captain America: the Winter Soldier” helmers Joe and Anthony Russo, along with comic book scribe Ande Parks, and Fernando Leon. Joe Russo will adapt the screenplay.

The story follows a weary mercenary who is hired by a Brazilian drug lord to extract his daughter from one of the world’s most dangerous and corrupt cities: Paraguay’s Ciudad del Este.

Eric Gitter and Peter Schwerin are producing the project through the Closed on Mondays Entertainment banner. The Russos will exec produce, along with Closed on Mondays’ Joe Nozemack.

Sierra/Affinity is handling international sales of the project.

Joe Russo is repped by WME and has “Captain America: the Winter Soldier” bowing on April 4, 2014. Resolution and Circle of Confusion rep Pogue.
