Mark Weingartner, Julio Macat, ASC, Dr. Corey Carbonara and Kristopher Tapley to be honored

The International Cinematographers Guild has named four special award winners as part of the its 17th Emerging Cinematographer Awards.

Mark Weingartner, Julio Macat, ASC, Dr. Corey Carbonara and Kristopher Tapley will be honored for contributions to cinematographic arts at a luncheon Sept. 27.

Weingartner, chairman of the ICG National Training Committee and a director of photography, visual effects supervisor and stereographer, will receive the Canon Award for advancement of digital technology in film and television.

The Kodak Mentorship Award will go to Macat, who recently mentored students at Pepperdine U., the AFI, NYU, Chapman College and Scottsdale Community College and taught a seminar at Disney Animation. He’s shot several high-grossing films, including his first hit, “Home Alone.”

Carbonara will receive the Nat Tiffen Award for education contributions to the art and craft of cinematography. He has served in a variety of capacities on the Federal Communications Commission, the Society of Motion Picture & Television Engineers and other organizations.

Tapley, editor of blog In Contention at HitFix.com, will be honored with the William A. Fraker Award for journalistic contributions to the art and craft of cinematography.

The Emerging Cinematographers Awards will be held Sept. 29 at the Directors Guild of America Theater in Los Angeles.
