Berlin event to lauds her Africa Outreach Project
Academy Award-winning thesp Charlize Theron will be feted with the Cinema for Peace Gala’s honorary chair Feb. 9 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Berlin.South African actress, also a U.N. Messenger of Peace, has been recognized for her Africa Outreach Project, which calls for medical education and battles against the spread of HIV. Cinema for Peace Gala is not officially part of the Berlinale. “Every day thousands of people die of this disease,” said Cinema for Peace founder Jaka Bizilj. “Theron’s Africa Outreach Project contributes tremendously in the concerned areas, helping to educate children and minors about HIV and AIDS as well as to support affected persons.” Various other program acts for this year’s gala also center on Africa. Additional kudos include the Cinema for Peace Justice Award, the Intl. Human Right Films Award, Most Valuable Movie of the Year, Most Valuable Docu and the Intl. Green Film Award, which is dedicated to pics that focus on improving the environment.
